Position Overview

The role primarily focuses on the ROEM 155mm Howitzer program, with additional support in various sectors as required.

We are seeking a skilled engineer with a background in prototype and low-volume production environments. This position involves conducting analysis and contributing to business case documentation while fostering collaborative relationships across functions to support operational needs. The engineer will also be responsible for developing accurate labor estimates and operational hour requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess and enhance manufacturing workflows, including runtime evaluations and bill of materials, while establishing setup routings in the ERP system with detailed process flows.
  2. Draft project proposals outlining engineering tasks, cost estimates, parts inventories, and timelines, ensuring project expenses align with budgetary constraints.
  3. Create Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for new product initiatives and perform analysis on Estimate at Completion (EAC) metrics.
  4. Offer strategic guidance on methods to optimize assembly efficiency.
  5. Design work cell configurations, incorporating tooling and workspace layouts, including CAD floor plans.
  6. Develop and model a comprehensive material flow strategy from inventory through production to distribution.
  7. Establish a tool management and storage system.
  8. Formulate project timelines and lead integrated teams on smaller-scale initiatives, such as cost-saving projects and prototype schedules.
  9. Facilitate communication between management, program offices, and production teams for the development of all business case studies.
  10. Determine all actual and standard hour requirements.
  11. Conduct capacity and resource utilization assessments.
  12. Assist in formulating overall operational labor estimates.
  13. Engage in project management activities for the execution of continuous improvement initiatives.
  14. Act as the Operations Data Analyst, overseeing compliance with company procedures and documentation.
  15. Perform additional related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in industrial or mechanical engineering) with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in office software, including Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Word.
  • Familiarity with continuous process improvement methodologies and tools.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret business system data effectively.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with management and other departments.
  • Experience working collaboratively in team settings.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems.
  • Understanding of fundamental Industrial Engineering principles.
  • Awareness of Learning Curve theories.
  • Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proficient in utilizing business application software systems.
  • Capability to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, preferably in mechanical or electrical disciplines, or in management (e.g., MBA, engineering management).
  • Lean/Six Sigma green belt certification or higher.
  • Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) and government contract projects.
