Job Overview

Mattoon CUSD #2 offers a rewarding opportunity for a Food Service Worker Lead. This position involves a commitment of 29 hours per week, with a schedule that excludes nights, weekends, and holidays. As a lead in food service, you will play a crucial role in food preparation, meal portioning, and serving our valued customers. Under the guidance of your supervisor, you will gain hands-on experience while building meaningful connections with those we serve. We seek individuals who are organized, focused, accountable, and, most importantly, maintain a positive demeanor at all times.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist in the daily preparation of food items, ensuring proper dating of products.
  • Coordinate the setup and breakdown of designated service stations in collaboration with management.
  • Prepare and cook food according to established recipes and guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate portion control during food preparation and service.
  • Maintain daily temperature logs for food safety compliance.
  • Conduct quality checks by sampling food items before serving.
  • Notify management of any food items that do not meet quality standards.
  • Complete opening and closing checklists for service stations.
  • Engage with customers as they approach and leave the serving area.
  • Solicit feedback on service quality and address any concerns with a positive attitude.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including all equipment and surfaces.
  • Ensure that all work areas and utensils are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Manage waste disposal from the service line accurately.
  • Transport supplies and equipment between storage and work areas as needed.
  • Participate in daily safety observations and report any hazards to management promptly.
  • Cross-train in various areas as required.
  • Support concessions, catering, and special events as directed by management.
  • Complete any additional tasks assigned by supervisors or management.
  • Lead and guide team members on the service line to ensure efficient and timely customer service.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • ServSafe Certification is required.
  • Capability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Previous food service experience is preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift and transport hot food items frequently.
  • Comfortable working in a kitchen environment with potential exposure to heat, noise, and chemicals.

This role may involve physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of walking and standing. Uniforms and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
