Job Overview

Mattoon CUSD #2 offers a rewarding opportunity for a Food Service Worker Lead, providing a structured schedule of 29 hours per week with no night, weekend, or holiday shifts. In this role, you will be instrumental in assisting with meal preparation, portioning, and serving to our valued patrons. Under the guidance of your supervisor, you will gain hands-on experience while building meaningful relationships with those we serve. Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist in the daily preparation of food items and ensure proper dating of products.
  • Coordinate the setup and breakdown of service stations as directed by management.
  • Prepare and cook food according to established recipes and guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate portion control when preparing and serving food items.
  • Maintain daily temperature logs to ensure food safety.
  • Conduct quality checks on food items prior to serving.
  • Notify management of any food items that do not meet quality standards.
  • Complete opening and closing checklists for service stations.
  • Welcome customers at the serving line and solicit feedback on their experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, including equipment and utensils.
  • Ensure all work surfaces and serving tools are sanitized properly.
  • Manage waste disposal from the service line effectively.
  • Transport supplies and equipment between storage and service areas as needed.
  • Participate in daily safety assessments and report any hazards to management.
  • Cross-train in various areas as required.
  • Assist in concessions, catering, and special events as directed by management.
  • Complete tasks as assigned by supervisors on a regular basis.
  • Lead and guide team members to ensure efficient and timely service.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • ServSafe Certification is required.
  • Capability to follow detailed instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Previous food service experience is preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift and transport hot food items.
  • Comfortable working in a kitchen environment with potential exposure to heat, noise, and chemicals.

This position may involve physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of walking and standing. Uniforms and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
