Position: Business Relationship Manager

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT The Business Relationship Manager will cultivate, enhance, and maintain business member relationships within a designated geographic area while overseeing a commercial loan portfolio. This role involves prospecting, cross-selling, and providing exceptional member service. The responsibilities include sourcing and managing intricate business loan relationships for entities with revenues exceeding $1.5 million and lending requirements ranging from $500,000 to $20,000,000, while also cross-selling additional products and services. This position emphasizes member engagement, sales, and service, requiring significant external business development and relationship management activities. Additionally, the Business Relationship Manager will mentor and develop junior bankers within the department and actively participate in training initiatives. The role demands independent problem-solving capabilities concerning business member inquiries and referrals, adhering to established policies and procedures while achieving set goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

***The Business Relationship Manager will be based in a designated territory and must be open to travel as required.***

  • Establish and strengthen relationships with new and existing business members with revenues of $1.5 million or more and lending needs up to $20,000,000.
  • Meet individual quarterly and annual production and growth targets for both business loans and deposits to support VyStar's overall financial objectives.
  • Mentor and develop junior bankers while achieving personal performance goals.
  • Engage in training sessions and product knowledge meetings actively.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of business loans with current and prospective members.
  • Analyze financial statements, tax returns, and relevant documentation to prepare loan requests for underwriting.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and data integrity throughout the loan origination and renewal processes.
  • Implement outbound calling strategies to acquire and nurture profitable business relationships.
  • Collaborate with Small Business Banker partners and branch colleagues to promote business membership growth.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of various business credit products, including Commercial Real Estate (CRE), Business Lines of Credit, and unsecured financing.
  • Stay informed about VyStar's credit standards, pricing structures, and member service practices.
  • Monitor and update sales activity and pipeline information using VyStar's contact management system.
  • Represent VyStar in the community by participating in local organizations to identify new clients and enhance the credit union's reputation.
  • Work effectively with portfolio management, credit underwriting, and servicing departments to process loan requests and renewals.
  • Regularly engage with existing business members to ensure their needs are met and appropriate solutions are offered.
  • Keep updated on economic developments affecting the loan portfolio and VyStar's overall performance.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of VyStar's business services offerings.
  • Handle incoming inquiries and referrals from branches and internal partners effectively.
  • Utilize strong communication and problem-solving skills to address business member issues.
  • Present a professional and approachable demeanor in all interactions as a representative of VyStar.
  • Adhere to VyStar Credit Union's policies regarding attendance, schedules, and reporting requirements.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of lending experience in business or commercial credit.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in business services or commercial banking in a sales or support role.
  • Three (3) years of branch sales experience or equivalent financial services sales experience with a proven track record.
  • Advanced understanding of business/commercial credit and related products.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and assess creditworthiness.
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including cash flow and profitability assessment.
  • Proven ability to structure complex credit requests effectively.
  • Broad professional experience in commercial lending, including underwriting and portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated success in developing new clients and business through proactive prospecting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Aptitude for sourcing and building new business relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
EDUCATION
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in a financial institution may substitute for a college degree at a rate of two years of experience for one year of education.
  • Required: Formal business/commercial credit training.
