Database Specialist

Job Summary:
TechnoGen is seeking a skilled Database Specialist to join our team. As a Database Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and providing data sets for several data visualization platforms, including the Open Data Portal. You will use data tools such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and Microsoft Power BI, as well as developer tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio.
Main Responsibilities:
• Manage and/or provide data sets for several data visualization platforms, including the Open Data Portal.
• Fulfill ad hoc data requests and those regular data requests established through data sharing agreements (DSAs) and memoranda of understanding (MOUs).
• Assist Team Lead with managing assigned educational data domains and provide support to Department and internal data staff.
• Continuously improve and expand data reporting options to meet Departmental needs.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in the areas of accounting, business, finance, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, data science, or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience with large data sets, preferably using Microsoft SQL Server relational databases and enterprise information systems.
• Demonstrated proficiency with analytical software and in creating and modifying structured query language (SQL), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), or other programming languages and tools.
• Experience managing multiple projects while ensuring that goals and priorities are met.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, particularly in translating data into easy-to-interpret, actionable reports, presentations, and findings.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI a plus, but not required.
• General knowledge of education related data domains a plus, but not required.
• Proven experience in moving data from one source to another.
• Strategic mindset, including demonstrated ability to problem-solve effectively and efficiently.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements in data specifications.
• Good project management skills in public, non-profit and/or private sectors; track record of delivering results against tight deadlines.
• Must be proficient in performing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Must be skilled in setting priorities, working under pressure, and working in collaboration with others.
• Must be able to proactively solve problems with professionalism.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with staff in a tactful, congenial, and personal manner.
• Must be experienced in exercising discretion and confidentiality in all professional duties.
