Santa Ana, California, United States City of Santa Ana Full time

Position Overview:
The City of Santa Ana is seeking dedicated individuals who are results-driven, possess a positive attitude, and exhibit creativity and innovation in their work. We value efficiency, a proven track record of success, and a strong commitment to public service.

Our highly skilled employees are essential in delivering exceptional service to the community. For detailed information regarding incentive pay, please refer to the relevant articles in the Santa Ana Police Officers Association (POA) Memorandum of Understanding.

Training and Responsibilities:
Academy Graduates will initially participate in a Field Training Officer Program lasting a minimum of 20 weeks, after which they will undertake the full spectrum of professional law enforcement responsibilities. Police Officers play a vital role in collaborating with the community to identify and address crime-related issues that impact the quality of life for all residents.

This community engagement, coupled with the rich diversity of cultures in Santa Ana, creates a dynamic and challenging work environment.

Attributes of Successful Candidates:
Successful officers are distinguished by their ability to make informed decisions based on facts rather than emotions, consistently throughout the day. They exhibit a strong sense of justice and the capacity to apply both the spirit and letter of the law within the legal boundaries of discretion.

Embracing the principles of Community Oriented Policing, they show genuine concern for community safety and the well-being of its citizens. Ideal candidates are alert, ready to take action, and enjoy both independent work and collaboration as part of a team. Proficiency in report writing and managing documentation is essential, along with a willingness to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications:
To be considered, applicants must meet all requirements established by P.O.S.T. as well as those specified by our agency. One year of work experience in any field, an A.A. or B.A. degree, and/or military experience is highly desirable.

Academy Graduate candidates must fulfill one of the following criteria:
- Successful completion of any California P.O.S.T. approved police training academy within the last 2.5 years.
- Current enrollment in any California P.O.S.T.-approved police training academy, with successful completion required prior to the consolidated testing date.

Bilingual proficiency is not mandatory at this time. However, applicants interested in receiving bilingual pay must be fluent in both English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Samoan, Hmong, Korean, or Cambodian.

Application Process:
All applicants are required to complete and submit an online City application form along with a supplemental questionnaire. Please note that resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the online application. It is crucial to ensure that the application form is filled out completely, with work history extending back at least 10 years, if applicable.

Successful candidates will undergo a thorough selection process, including various examinations and evaluations to assess their qualifications for the position. The City of Santa Ana is an equal opportunity employer, committed to providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
