Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physician to serve as the Associate Chief of Staff for Education at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center. The successful candidate will provide administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the Medical Center's education programs, ensuring achievement of clinical, research, and education goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Health Care system education, including guidance and training for residents and other trainees.
  • Develop and implement tracking methods to monitor the service's fiscal activities.
  • Collaborate with other service chiefs in the development and execution of the overall Medical Center strategic and business plan.
  • Encourage and reward risk-taking and entrepreneurial behavior, and develop alternative revenue streams and other gains in organizational outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a high-reliability organization through continuous measurement and improvement of the quality of services provided.
Requirements
  • Board eligible (certified strongly preferred) physician with advanced clinical experience and demonstrated administrative and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of the VA system and its regulations relating to academic affiliates.
  • Documented ability to maintain and enhance partnerships with academic affiliates and other stakeholders.
  • Progressive management experience with strong administrative and interpersonal skills to coordinate a broad continuum of programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skills in providing clinical interface with academic affiliates and other key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the VA system and its regulations relating to academic affiliates.
  • Documented ability to maintain and enhance partnerships with academic affiliates and other stakeholders.
  • Progressive management experience with strong administrative and interpersonal skills to coordinate a broad continuum of programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery.
Working Conditions

The incumbent will work independently, with supervision mainly advisory in nature. The incumbent will provide first-line supervision to various administrative support staff.

Customer Service

The incumbent will meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions, consistently communicating and treating customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.

Age, Development, and Cultural Needs of Patients

The age of the patients served ranges from 18 to 100 years. The incumbent will consider age when providing care, as it relates to functional capacity/limitations, ability to understand and follow directions, and provide objective self-assessment of past medical condition and treatment appropriate to the overall treatment goals and plans.

Computer Security Requirement

The incumbent will protect printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
