* Obtain brief medical histories and chief complaints from patients
* Maintain accurate patient medical records
* Assist with office procedures and perform related tasks
* Perform autorefraction, refraction, and other eye exams as trained and certified
* Assist physicians during patient exams and procedures
* Schedule surgeries, follow-up appointments, and referrals as requested
* Monitor and maintain stock of supplies and equipment

Requirements:

* High school diploma or equivalent
* Completion of Ophthalmology Certification Program
* Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant

* Obtain brief medical history and chief complaint from patients
* Maintain patient's medical record via electronic medical record
* Set up and assist with office procedures
* Perform within scope of training and certification to do procedures/tests including: Autorefraction using the Topcon auto-refractor, refraction using the Jackson Cross Cylinder Method, Humphrey visual field, OCT, IOL master, pachymeter, checking vision using Snellen Chart, Goldman Tonometry or Tonopen, brightness acuity testing, sonometric scans, stereo testing, color deficiency testing, EOM's checking pupils for affarent pupilary deficiency
* Assist physician by scribing, and performing various tasks during patient exam
* Schedule surgeries, follow up appointments and referrals as requested. Obtains pre-certification for all surgeries
* Phones/faxes in prescriptions for medications and glasses per physician orders
* Receives and returns phone calls, screening and forwarding those requiring physician action
* Monitors and maintains stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment
* Provides education/training to patient/family

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:

* Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements:

* 3 years of Ophthalmology experience will substitute for completion of an Ophthalmology Certification Program
