Position Overview:
This role is for a Medical Laboratory Scientist I specializing in the Microbiology department. Responsibilities include:
  • Processing specimens and conducting PCR testing, as well as managing positive blood cultures.
  • Performing a variety of laboratory procedures in accordance with licensing and certification requirements.
  • Engaging in analytical testing of blood and human biological specimens, requiring a solid foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • Participating in pre-analytical and post-analytical processes, which may involve on-call duties.
  • Adhering to laboratory policies and maintaining quality control standards.
  • Providing exceptional customer service and fostering respectful relationships with all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting pre-analytical tasks, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and specimen processing.
  • Executing tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately, in compliance with established protocols.
  • Reporting results, including critical findings, following established guidelines.
  • Training and orienting new staff and students, ensuring thorough documentation of their progress.
  • Offering guidance to technicians and addressing customer service inquiries.
  • Following safety protocols and demonstrating compliance with infection control policies.
  • Participating in performance improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
  • Assisting in the evaluation of new laboratory techniques and contributing to special projects.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in a relevant scientific field or equivalent training.
  • National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior clinical laboratory experience is advantageous.
