Position Overview:
The Microbiology Medical Lab Scientist plays a crucial role in our laboratory team, focusing on specimen processing, PCR testing, and the management of positive blood cultures. This position involves performing a variety of laboratory procedures within the microbiology domain, requiring a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge and practical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-analytical activities, including equipment maintenance, inventory control, and specimen processing.
- Perform all assigned tests and analytical procedures accurately and efficiently, adhering to established protocols.
- Engage in post-analytical activities, ensuring timely reporting of results and providing technical support.
- Assist in training new staff and students, documenting their orientation and progress.
- Support technicians and clinical staff, addressing customer service issues and facilitating workflow.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
- Contribute to the evaluation of new laboratory techniques and assist with special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in a relevant scientific field or equivalent education and training.
- National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist is required.
- A Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a related field is preferred.
- Prior clinical laboratory experience is advantageous.
