Behavioral Health Security Specialist

The Behavioral Health Security Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors at VCU Health. This position requires a unique blend of security expertise, communication skills, and empathy.
Key Responsibilities- Provide security services to Inpatient Psychiatry Units and the Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC)
- Assist staff, visitors, and patients in a courteous and professional manner
- Enforce rules and regulations of VCU Health while projecting a positive image
- Prevent potentially risky and/or violent situations through proactive violence prevention and training
- De-escalate agitated patients and evaluate ways to enhance safety and customer service
- Valid Virginia Driver's License and acceptable driving record (if duties require operating a vehicle)
- Minimum of three (3) years of security, public safety, or law enforcement work experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) years of security, public safety, or law enforcement work experience
- Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
- Training or certification in conflict resolution, de-escalation, and/or violence prevention
This role requires the ability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, and extended hours based on schedule and organizational needs.
Physical RequirementsThe Behavioral Health Security Specialist must be able to lift 20-50 lbs, stand for prolonged periods, and perform other physical tasks as required.
