Job Title: Lead Developmental Services Worker

Job Summary:

The Department of Developmental Services Southbury Training School is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lead Developmental Services Worker to join our team. As a Lead Developmental Services Worker, you will be responsible for supervising and guiding a team of Developmental Services Workers in the implementation of residential living programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of Developmental Services Workers in the implementation of residential living programs.
  • Oversee and participate in the general care of assigned living quarters and the care, feeding, clothing, and treatment of individuals.
  • Direct and advise staff on the implementation of daily teaching strategies.
  • Evaluate the performance of residential programs within living quarters.
  • Confer daily with staff on routine operational, disciplinary, and special problems.
  • Implement policies, programs, and operational procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations and the needs of individuals.
  • Participate in caring for and instructing individuals in their activities of daily living.
  • Confer with parents concerning individual status.
  • Administer selected oral medications with appropriate training.
  • Complete various reports, notes, logs, requisitions, etc.
  • Design and write residential living programs.
  • Provide orientation and in-service training to subordinate staff.
  • Order, secure, and distribute supplies and equipment for program functioning and individual personal needs.
  • Attend interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Arrange for appropriate support services such as housekeeping, maintenance, and laundry.
  • Administer first aid in emergency situations.
  • Drive individuals to necessary appointments/outings.
  • Serve as backup for Supervising Developmental Services Worker.

Requirements:

  • One (1) year of experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities or other developmental disabilities at the level of a Developmental Services Worker 2.
  • Considerable knowledge of modern methods of working with individuals with intellectual disabilities or other developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitative and interdisciplinary processes; goals, policies, and organization of a residential living unit; safety, fire, and first aid procedures.
  • Considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to implement policies and operational procedures; lead staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals who have significant behavioral and psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Experience interacting, communicating, listening, and observing individuals of varying skill levels and backgrounds.
  • Experience utilizing modern approaches to working with persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, and MS Team.

Special Requirements:

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license, Public Passenger Endorsement, or Commercial Driver's license for designated positions.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

Physical Requirements:

Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties. Applicants may be required to take a physical examination.

Working Conditions:

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have significant exposure to communicable and/or infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive and/or abusive individuals and may be exposed to strongly disagreeable conditions.
