Position Title: Custodian

Employment Type: Full time, University Staff, Non-exempt

Reports To: The Custodial Services Supervisor

Pay Range: $31,200 - $41,600

Work Schedule:

  • Sunday - Thursday, 6am - 2:30pm
  • Tuesday - Saturday, 6am - 2:30 pm

The custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness within the facilities, managing waste and recycling, and ensuring the security and safety of the building by performing tasks such as securing doors after hours. This role is essential in upholding cleanliness, order, and safety in designated areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employs basic tools and supplies to clean designated facility areas and dispose of waste and recyclables
  • Monitors and secures both interior and exterior entrances of the facility, reporting any issues to the relevant authorities
  • Organizes supply areas and equipment, keeps track of inventory, and requests additional supplies as necessary
  • Records and reports maintenance needs, violations, and pest control issues
  • Ensures walkways are kept clean and clear of debris, litter, snow, and ice

The Facilities Management Department plays a crucial role in maintaining the campus environment, ensuring that roads are clean and utilities such as water and electricity function effectively. The work environment for this position is primarily indoors, with common exposure to dust, odors, mechanical sounds, and noise.

Qualifications

  • Education - High School Diploma Preferred
  • Proven experience with basic cleaning and sanitizing practices
  • Experience in operating custodial cleaning equipment
  • Experience with snow removal equipment is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The University of Wisconsin System offers a comprehensive benefits package, including participation in a state pension plan.
