Position Overview

JOB TITLE: Senior Engagement Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Senior Adult Services

SUPERVISOR: Manager, Senior Adult Services

Gesher Human Services serves as a vital link to support and opportunities for individuals in various aspects of life. Our initiatives in workforce development, mental health, and inclusion cater to the diverse needs of the Metro Detroit community, particularly focusing on the Jewish population.

ROLE SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of this role is to design and implement engagement strategies tailored for individuals aged 55 and older, while providing guidance and resources related to aging and cognitive health.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, gerontology, or a related discipline is required.
  • Two to three years of experience working with senior populations is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to engage effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong written communication skills for preparing reports, grant applications, and other documentation.
  • A valid Michigan driver's license with a clean driving record is necessary.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and travel to various community sites.
  • Familiarity with agency databases is advantageous.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute programs for seniors and their family caregivers.
  • Assess participants' engagement levels and provide appropriate resources and referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director to create meaningful volunteer opportunities aligned with participants' interests.
  • Assist in promoting programs and conducting outreach to increase community involvement.
  • Organize and coordinate social and cultural activities for program participants.
  • Recruit, screen, and orient participants for various programs.
  • Maintain accurate case records and fulfill necessary documentation requirements.
  • Monitor program outcomes and prepare reports as required.
  • Engage in agency committees as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The working environment may include moderate noise levels typical of office settings.

Physical demands involve the ability to stand, sit, operate a computer, and perform light to moderate lifting tasks.

NON-EXEMPT STATUS

This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation in accordance with the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
