Key Responsibilities
  • Overall Operations - Field and Project Management
    • Lead and manage construction operations for the manufacturing business unit, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
    • Identify and manage market-specific design partners to ensure that we have the best possible relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Develop and implement strategies to deliver the best building experience in overall construction operations, including customer engagement and satisfaction.
    • Lead teams to define, measure, and exceed customer satisfaction and engagement, setting expectations and guiding teams to build and maintain superior relationships with clients, design teams, and trade partners.
    • Work with teams during pursuits to review implementation plans and general conditions on key/select projects, ensuring that we are well-prepared to deliver successful outcomes.
    • Ensure that effective operational procedures and processes are in place, evaluating future needs of construction operations and analyzing trends and best practices in the construction industry.
    • Develop organizational structures to maximize resources and performance, working with business unit leaders and project leadership to develop and implement staffing plans for project teams.
    • Engage with key clients as needed to evaluate team/project performance, actively participating in helping sell work on large or key projects, including RFP development and interviews.
  • Risk Management / Profit & Loss
    • Guide operations to develop and manage overall risk management plans for operations, assisting/leading project teams to develop project-specific risk management plans.
    • Work with project teams and preconstruction/estimating to develop strategies to enhance fee opportunities, including self-perform, warehouse support, etc.
    • Review projection reports prepared by project teams and attend monthly project projection meetings, guiding and directing project teams to foresee issues and analyze potential risks and lead them in establishing a plan to reduce the risk for both budget and schedule.
    • Work with/guide/lead the team to prevent and/or manage difficult situations and ensure they come to a complete resolution, actively forecasting resource and staffing needs and managing chargeability.
    • Forecast and manage overall WIP (work-in-progress) for the business unit.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Build, develop, mentor, and lead a premier construction operations team, identifying needed competencies and staffing levels of all departments, including succession planning.
    • Recruit and select high-performing senior-level professionals who are the right fit for McCownGordon culture and operations team, ensuring effective on-boarding for new team members.
    • Develop, mentor, and guide leaders to highest levels of performance, working with leaders to establish plans for development, engagement, and retention of associates.
  • Business Unit Strategy and Leadership
    • Serve as part of the management team that develops, communicates, and implements overall business unit strategy, actively participating in strategic planning sessions, milestone meetings, and all-company meetings.
    • Work with regional leaders to develop geographic and vertical market expansion strategies, conducting research, analyzing data, evaluating feasibility, and helping execute strategies for new opportunities.
    • Actively participate in community and professional associations to contribute to the overall construction industry and community, promote the company, and build networks.
    Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field.
    • 15+ years of experience in the construction industry working on industrial construction projects, preferably manufacturing facilities (life sciences, food and beverage, consumer products, electronics manufacturing, and general industrial).
    • Experience with $1B+ company preferred.
    • 7+ years of experience direct operational oversight of teams on a national basis preferred.
    • Well-rounded background managing overall construction operations.
    • Demonstrated success leading multiple departments and teams.
    • Proven success in people management, including coaching, mentoring, and leading senior-level project management teams.
    • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and lead company-wide initiatives.
    • Proven success in building client relationships.
    • Familiar with all phases of large design/build projects.
    Working Conditions

The position requires work in an office environment or at construction and/or manufacturing sites, which may include special protective clothing/equipment and exposure to extreme temperatures/conditions. McCownGordon executes projects across the United States, this position will require travel up to 30%.
