Job Description

Los Alamos Technical Associates is seeking an Environmental Scientist II to join our Site Environmental Compliance team. This role will work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with a team of professionals to perform environmental compliance activities for the WIPP facility, including reports and regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with DOE-CBFO personnel during operational activities and submission of reports.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies such as NMED and EPA personnel during inspections, new permit acquisition, and established permit requirements and modifications.
  • Sample waste containers for hazardous waste constituents and manage waste according to RCRA requirements.
  • Sample waste containers for low-level radioactive waste characterization and manage waste according to DOE requirements.
  • Generate and provide deliverables in collaboration with the Site Environmental Compliance group and Environmental Compliance Manager, including biennial hazardous waste reports, annual PCB reports, and hazardous waste generator fee reports.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Engineering, or other technical area.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental compliance.
  • Broad knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of sampling for hazardous constituents and RCRA requirements.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other individuals and project groups.
  • Attention to detail and initiative.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office to prepare Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and reports.
