About the Role

Astrion is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Lead - Systems Engineering to join our team. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will be responsible for leading the technical direction of our systems engineering efforts and guiding our Integrated Product Teams on successful implementation of technical strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical direction of our systems engineering efforts, ensuring alignment with our organization's vision and mission.
  • Break down complex requirements into manageable plans and execute them with precision.
  • Architect and develop solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact, leveraging industry best practices and continuous delivery and integration in a DevSecOps organization.
  • Work with resources at your disposal to identify areas of opportunity, weak points, and correct them, including external contracting companies that are partners with the Air Force outsourcing development services.
  • Modernize systems, off-the-shelf software, or build in-house software, while reshaping and upholding agile practices and challenging bureaucracy and old waterfall methodologies.
  • Define engineering standards and best practices, fostering a continuous improvement mindset with our engineering staff.
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.
  • Communicate effectively with non-technical peers to develop strategies and work with the team to develop automated testing, testing plans, and encourage test-driven development culture.
  • Assist the Government team in ensuring the contractor's work aligns with the government's requirements and your technical direction.
  • Oversee flight scheduling algorithm optimization and perform Operational Reach best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a professional engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited educational program and 7 years of work experience, with 4 years within the DoD.
  • Experience in requirements development, production and deployment, and operation and support, architectures development & implementation, modeling & simulation, including but not limited to Model Based Systems Engineering principles, verification & validation, technical data package development and sustainment, and principles of configuration management.
  • Experience with network architectures, embedded systems, and application deployment across a variety of systems and hardware, to include cloud deployment and virtualization.
  • 5+ years' experience writing Java and/or.Net, and JavaScript/TypeScript apps.
  • Proficient with frontend and backend development (full stack).
  • Experience working with production applications and have fielded at least one application successfully.
  • Experience with industry best practices (i.e., Test-Driven Development (TDD), Extreme Programming (XP), 12 factor principles, Infrastructure as Code (IAC)) and teach these practices if necessary.
  • Experience with continuous delivery and integration in a DevSecOps organization targeting deployments in the cloud.
  • Experience deploying applications in a containerized environment.
  • Experience working with data/integration partners.
  • Organized and able to keep others organized towards the same goal, without imposing.
  • Effective communicator and able to speak up when necessary, with respect, inclusion, and collaboration in mind.
  • Able to develop empathy with users and go outside of the comfort zone to provide the best solutions and support for the warfighter.
