Job Description and Duties

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) seeks a strategic and charismatic leader who will provide budgetary oversight and direction over the Accounting Services Branch and Budget Management Branch in the Division of Administrative Services.

The Deputy Director, Fiscal Services serves as a high-level policy adviser and expert of fiscal and budgetary matters that impact the Department and its operations, including adult institutions and adult parole operations, and managing CDCR's $14.4 billion dollar budget. The DD provides consultative and advisory expertise to Executive Management on the budget development processes for the Department, including the preparation of budget change proposals, schedules, and budgetary reports.

This position requires a strong understanding of fiscal and budgetary management, including the principles, practices, and methods of fiscal accountability. The ideal candidate will have experience leading, developing, influencing, and motivating colleagues and collaborating with others to meet the organization's and external stakeholders' strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide budgetary oversight and direction over the Accounting Services Branch and Budget Management Branch
  • Develop and implement fiscal and budgetary policies and procedures
  • Provide consultative and advisory expertise to Executive Management on budget development processes
  • Manage CDCR's $14.4 billion dollar budget
  • Develop and implement budget change proposals, schedules, and budgetary reports

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in fiscal and budgetary management, including experience leading, developing, influencing, and motivating colleagues
  • Strong understanding of fiscal and budgetary management, including the principles, practices, and methods of fiscal accountability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to meet the organization's and external stakeholders' strategic goals
