Job Description

The State of California is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director, Attorney to join our team at the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC). As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare in California.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the statewide activities of the Help Center-Consumer Complaint Division (HC-CCD) and cultivate a work environment that ensures high-quality service to the public.
  • Manage the Help Center, Legal Affairs Branch, and personally perform complex and sensitive legal work for consumer complaints.
  • Work in conjunction with the Help Center-Call Center, Provider Complaint & Information Division (HC-CCPID) to ensure compliance with the Act.
  • Identify and refer trending member issues to the appropriate DMHC office for further follow-up.
  • Direct and oversee program business operations for HC-CCD in coordination with HC-CCPID, including procurements, vendor contracts, personnel, and support for the customer relationship management system.
  • Direct consumer complaint data analytics, auditing, and public reporting in coordination with HC-CCPID.
  • Advise the Director's Office in the development and implementation of policies, regulations, and programs designed to administer and enforce State laws specific to the Help Center consumer complaint operations.
  • Assist the Director in achieving the Department's mission of protecting consumer healthcare rights and ensuring a stable healthcare delivery system.

Requirements:

  • California State Bar License
  • Background Investigation clearance

Working Conditions:

The DMHC utilizes a hybrid telework model to provide all employees with an avenue to telework while ensuring business and operational needs are met. Remote-Centered employees are expected to maintain a safe and distraction-free work environment at the approved alternate work location.

Office-Centered employees are expected to maintain a dedicated workstation at a DMHC official worksite. Office-Centered employees are expected to work in a climate-controlled office or cubicle under artificial lighting.
