Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Family Law Paralegal to join our team at McKean Smith LLC. The successful candidate will provide exceptional support to our Partner-level attorneys and associates in their practice, assisting with gathering, analyzing, and organizing information, drafting legal pleadings, discovery summaries and responses, motions, and other documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with assigned attorneys and support staff to prepare legal documentation and process transactions.
  • Conduct client interviews, locate and interview expert witnesses, and draft legal documents, including discovery motions, summary judgment motions, appellate briefs, affidavits, memoranda, and letters.
  • Investigate factual information to respond to litigation discovery requests or other information inquiries, and perform legal research and analysis, both manually and on computers.
  • Manage cases and files, organize and maintain files, and perform factual and technical investigation and analysis of case issues.
  • Assist in all phases of case preparation, including discovery and trial, and prepare for and attend trials.
  • Prepare jury instructions and trial binders, coordinate trial exhibits, and monitor legal fees, budgets, and project status.
  • Provide general logistical help and support the maintenance of legal files, and assist in the development and implementation of office systems and procedures as needed.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned, and perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Three to five years of Family Law experience or equivalent.
  • Certification from an ABA-approved paralegal training program or equivalent required; Bachelors' degree (B.A.) in a related field or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong research skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and excellent grammatical and spelling skills.
  • Proficient on Microsoft Office, LexisNexis, Centerbase (preferred), and commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills, able to manage priorities and workflow, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels, and make timely and sound decisions.
  • Good judgment, creativity, flexibility, and innovative team player, with the ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Acute attention to detail, demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects, and ability to perform diversified clerical functions and basic accounting procedures.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
Work Environment
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity, talk or hear, and utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard.
  • Occasionally required to lift/push/carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used include telephone, fax, voice mail, computer, copier, scanner, and related office equipment.
