Administrative Support Specialist

Position Overview:
This role is essential in delivering comprehensive administrative support within the Emergency Department. The Administrative Support Specialist is responsible for a variety of clerical tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently provides a range of clerical services tailored to the needs of the assigned department.
- Facilitates the processing of physician orders and collaborates with multiple departments to coordinate patient testing and appointments, enhancing the efficiency of patient diagnoses and treatment.
- Engages with external facilities to arrange necessary appointments, tests, and patient transfers.
- Monitors telemetry rhythms, interpreting significant changes in fetal or cardiac rhythms, and promptly informs nursing staff of any critical arrhythmias.
- Responsible for tracking vital signs such as blood pressure and oxygen saturation, reporting any significant changes to the nursing team.
- Accurately records relevant patient information and rhythm strips in clinical documentation.
- Assists with basic patient care needs as required.
- Serves as a central point of communication for both internal and external customer service inquiries.
- Executes computer operations with precision, maintaining accurate records of admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Ensures correct billing and charge entry processes are followed.
Qualifications:
- Must successfully complete unit-specific competencies.
- Ability to read and write proficiently to follow detailed procedures and perform basic arithmetic.
- Familiarity with office procedures and equipment is essential.
- Ability to read telemetry monitor strips and interpret critical arrhythmic conditions.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology is required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
- Preferred experience includes six to twelve months in a clinical or clerical role within an acute care environment, along with at least three months as a nursing assistant or ward clerk.
