Position Overview

The HIV Clinical Consultant will deliver specialized education and support to healthcare providers nationwide. This role demands proficiency in the following domains:
  • Expertise in HIV management, including testing, primary care, antiretroviral therapy, resistance testing interpretation, and prevention strategies for HIV transmission.
  • Knowledge of viral hepatitis management, focusing on individuals with hepatitis B and/or C.
  • Guidance on managing occupational and non-occupational exposures to blood-borne pathogens.
  • PrEP care: Topics may encompass HIV testing protocols, eligibility for PrEP, monitoring for toxicity, and screening for STIs and other blood-borne pathogens.
The HIV Clinical Consultant will respond to inquiries, ensuring prompt delivery of expert consultation while managing associated administrative tasks, such as conducting literature reviews, participating in educational initiatives, and developing protocols.
Compensation Information

For salary details, please refer to the TCS Non-Academic Titles Search. Note that compensation ranges for non-bargaining unit roles can vary significantly, typically falling within 80% - 120% of the midpoint based on the candidate's experience and current salary levels of similar roles at UCSF.

Essential Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) or equivalent qualifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical principles within a specialized field, staying current with research developments and best practices.
  • Advanced skills in compounding and preparing complex medications, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong project management capabilities to oversee multiple priorities and deliver high-quality service.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical-thinking abilities to propose innovative solutions and address complex challenges.
  • Interpersonal skills to foster relationships with healthcare professionals and manage sensitive patient situations with empathy.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of accurate documentation.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical study analysis and integration of new practices into clinical settings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical practice, health information systems, and effective communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of a Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY2) in a specialized area or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in HCV treatment and monitoring.
  • Experience managing complex blood-borne pathogen exposures.
  • Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy and/or Specialty Practice, if applicable.
  • Certification as an AAHIVP-recognized HIV Pharmacist.
