Job Overview

Position Summary

A Field Survey Specialist is sought to exhibit comprehensive expertise in survey calculations and field methodologies. The individual in this role should possess a solid understanding of plan analysis and drafting. The responsibilities outlined below further detail the expectations associated with this position. The ideal candidate must be capable of working autonomously on projects from preliminary stages to completion. Proficiency in construction staking, boundary surveying, topographic analysis, and GPS technology is essential. The candidate will also provide support to the Senior Survey Technician in fulfilling project requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Stake out pavement, sewer lines, and rail systems.
  • Conduct topographic surveys.
  • Execute level loop measurements.
  • Acquire skills in operating the Leica PaveSmart system.
  • Learn to operate the trimmer with Leica technology.
  • Gain proficiency in using Trimble DiNi, Trimble GPS, and Trimble Total Station.
  • Learn to set up Leica Total Stations and assist with paver or trimmer operations.
  • Collaborate with project managers and fellow surveyors to finalize surveys.
  • Plan and coordinate surveying activities to ascertain precise locations and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, mapping, land division, and other applications.
  • Maintain accurate records, notes, and sketches to document and validate work performed.
  • Conduct field surveys to gather data for foundational plans.
  • Provide control lines and elevations necessary for precise measurements and proper installation of materials by construction teams.
  • Deliver topographic and cross-section surveys as needed for planning and quantity assessments.
  • Perform quantity calculations as required.

Qualifications

  • 1-2+ years of experience in surveying within heavy civil construction is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD is advantageous.
  • Experience with GPS systems is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and address routine challenges while keeping relevant parties informed of issues or risks.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to company safety protocols.
  • Ability to interpret roadway and construction plans.
  • Capability to differentiate between various materials.
  • Understanding of elevation and offset information.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support safety initiatives and collaborate with Health and Safety personnel.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to maneuver and back up trailers.
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.

Work Environment

Work is conducted outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions and temperatures. Site-specific exposure to hazardous materials necessitates the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Noise levels may vary by site and may require PPE.
