Position Overview: The Facilities Assistant plays a crucial role in overseeing and participating in the comprehensive management of maintenance, operations, and security functions associated with the facilities and grounds owned by Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Assistant is responsible for ensuring campus maintenance and safety through collaboration with school committees and building experts, which includes inspecting and coordinating maintenance tasks related to the buildings, grounds, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and collaborate with relevant third-party vendors, including landscaping, pest control, and safety communication services.
  • Oversee the janitorial staff and subcontracted teams to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.
  • Monitor the facilities repair request process to address reported issues promptly and accurately.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues to assist in developing a proactive maintenance strategy.
  • Troubleshoot and repair routine maintenance issues, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, wall repairs, painting, and landscaping.
  • Act as a point of contact for security-related matters, coordinating with the Facilities Manager and Director of Operations.
  • Ensure a safe environment for the Yu Ying community, including snow removal from entrances, walkways, and parking areas.
  • Participate as a member of the safety team, ensuring appropriate signage, barriers, and fencing are in place. Engage in drills, manage incidents, direct traffic, and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in basic email and phone functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in school facilities or building maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Familiarity with electronic databases and computer software.
  • Comfortable operating a minimum 10 ft. box truck.
