Job Title: Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance Specialist

Valiant Integrated Services is seeking a highly skilled Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Applied Research and Information Sharing (ARIS) Branch, you will play a critical role in researching and writing disaster management and humanitarian assistance products.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and analysis on disaster management and humanitarian assistance topics, including disaster risk reduction and management, humanitarian civil-military coordination, and crisis response capacity building.
  • Write and edit high-quality reports, handbooks, and other products on disaster management and humanitarian assistance, including Disaster Management Reference Handbooks for select Asia-Pacific countries.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to ensure that products meet client-specific style and content requirements.
  • Support the quality control process by reviewing and revising research papers for logical flow, clarity, completeness, punctuation, grammar, and content.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic partners, international organizations, and stakeholders to share information and best practices related to disaster management and humanitarian assistance.
  • Conduct open-source and classified data-mining in conjunction with stakeholders, and post final deliverables on CFE-DM website, ReliefWeb, and PreventionWeb.
  • Support civil-military training, exercises, operations, short/long-term planning, and assessments as part of the USINDOPACOM theatre campaign plan across the Pacific.
  • Plan, attend, and present academic conferences and fora.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a related field, such as Journalism, English, Communications, Disaster Management, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to understand disaster management and humanitarian assistance related content.
  • Experience managing complex research projects and studies that promote civil-military cooperation during humanitarian and disaster response missions and training.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to change in deliverables and timelines.
  • Good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills in the preparation and presentation of reports.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.
  • Experience with data collection and evaluating results, with the ability to support process improvement.
  • Strong MS Word skills, with experience with formatting, editing, and publishing technical reports, planning documents, or fact sheets.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in the English Language fluently.
  • Experience with public speaking, presentation, and facilitating groups.
  • Ability to take direction yet work independently with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Willingness to collaborate with others from different backgrounds, respect for diverse perspectives.
  • S. Citizenship is required, and the successful candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET level clearance.

Salary: Salary will be determined based upon current experience and relevance to the position.

Travel: Up to 15% travel (domestic and international)
