Position Summary:

This role emphasizes the research and development of disaster management and humanitarian assistance documentation within the Applied Research and Information Sharing (ARIS) Branch. The Analyst will engage in the coordination and execution of multiple research initiatives, collaborating closely with the team lead to create comprehensive Disaster Management Reference Handbooks tailored for specific countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a dedicated writing team to gather, analyze, and synthesize open-source information relevant to Disaster Management & Humanitarian Assistance (DMHA) for designated countries.
  • Develop DM reference handbooks for various nations, ensuring a thorough understanding of their disaster management capabilities and vulnerabilities.
  • Edit and refine research documents for clarity, coherence, and adherence to established standards.
  • Ensure compliance with client-specific style and content requirements through rigorous quality control processes.
  • Engage with subject matter experts to incorporate feedback and enhance the quality of documentation.
  • Work alongside the graphics team to ensure the final products meet production standards.
  • Conduct research and produce analytical documents to support the Center's objectives, including program materials and databases.
  • Assist in marketing initiatives for the program, which may involve updating digital content and developing outreach materials.
  • Create disaster response reports, information papers, and case studies to document best practices and lessons learned.
  • Draft and edit applied research publications, assessments, and strategic analyses related to disaster management.
  • Perform data mining and publish findings on relevant platforms.
  • Maintain professional communication with academic partners and stakeholders.
  • Support civil-military training and planning efforts as part of broader campaign strategies.
  • Participate in academic conferences and contribute to discussions in the field.
  • Attend regular team meetings and maintain project tracking.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field such as Journalism, Communications, or Disaster Management.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient writing and editing skills with a solid understanding of DMHA content.
  • Experience in managing complex research projects related to humanitarian response.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines while working collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in MS Word and document formatting.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to work independently while being receptive to guidance.
  • Commitment to diversity and collaboration across different perspectives.
  • U.S. Citizenship required, with the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel up to 15% for both domestic and international assignments.
