Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer to join our Norfolk (preferred) or Richmond, VA office. The successful candidate will support complex site development projects, including port/cargo terminal and municipal infrastructure improvements, from concept development to permitting and construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage construction projects by preparing engineering design and documents and confirming specifications.
  • Design construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models.
  • Prepare engineering design by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data.
  • Determine project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costs.
  • Create feasibility studies by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data.
  • Produce engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules.
  • Confirm adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspecting construction sites, and verifying calculations and placements.
  • Fulfill project requirements by training and guiding operators.
  • Maintain operations by enforcing project and operational policies and procedures.
  • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintain project databases by writing computer programs, entering data, and completing backups.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university degree program.
  • Professional Engineer licensure in Virginia or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in general civil engineering.
  • Competence in general civil engineering design, including roadway, paving, grading, drainage, hydraulics & hydrology, water and sanitary sewer.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D. MicroStation is desirable.
  • Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines.
Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in an office or client office setting. Ability to use standard office equipment is required. Travel will be required.
