SUNY Ulster Senior Financial Records Specialist

Position Summary: SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York, is seeking applications for a Senior Financial Records Specialist. This role entails managing intricate account clerical tasks that require independent judgment and the ability to oversee complex bookkeeping functions within a significant department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain detailed activity control records, manage workload schedules, and coordinate with other units;
  • Plan, assign, and review the preparation and upkeep of diverse financial records and reports while guiding staff on specialized tasks;
  • Compile, prepare, and analyze a variety of intricate financial and statistical documents;
  • Revise, develop, and implement accounting methods and procedures;
  • Conduct correspondence related to financial matters;
  • Oversee audits of various accounts, claims, and records, along with the preparation of related reports;
  • Utilize various office equipment, including electronic computing systems;
  • May supervise the reconciliation of revenues with bank statements;
  • May assist in preparing the annual operating budget and ensuring necessary financial controls;
  • May compile all relevant information required for bond sales.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A comprehensive understanding of financial account maintenance and verification methods; familiarity with office terminology, procedures, and equipment; proficient in business arithmetic and English; strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping; ability to perform arithmetic calculations swiftly and accurately; capacity to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to comprehend and execute oral and written instructions; legible writing skills; interpersonal skills; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; sound judgment; neatness; high accuracy; integrity; tact and courtesy; and physical condition suitable for the job demands.

Minimum Qualifications: Either:

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's or higher degree in Accounting or a related field, along with one year of full-time paid experience in financial account maintenance;
  2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, with three years of full-time paid experience in financial account maintenance.
Additionally:
  • Commitment to the goals and objectives of community colleges in providing quality programs and services for a diverse student population.

Compensation: $25.44 per hour.
