Position Summary:
SUNY Ulster County Community College is seeking applications for a Senior Accounting Clerk. This role involves overseeing intricate financial clerical tasks, requiring independent judgment and the management of complex bookkeeping functions within a significant department. The position operates under the general oversight of a higher-level employee, allowing considerable discretion in determining necessary actions to fulfill assignments. Supervision of subordinate staff is typically part of the role.

Key Responsibilities:
The following activities are representative of the diverse responsibilities associated with this position. Incumbents may engage in some or all of the tasks listed below, as well as other related duties not explicitly mentioned:

  • Maintaining detailed activity control records, scheduling workloads, and coordinating efforts with other units;
  • Planning, assigning, and reviewing the preparation and upkeep of various financial records and reports while guiding employees in specialized aspects of the work;
  • Compiling, preparing, and analyzing a range of complex financial and statistical reports;
  • Revising, developing, and implementing accounting methods and procedures;
  • Managing correspondence related to financial matters;
  • Overseeing audits of diverse accounts, claims, and records, along with the preparation of related documentation;
  • Utilizing various office equipment, including electronic computing systems;
  • Possibly supervising the reconciliation of revenues with bank statements;
  • Assisting in the formulation of the annual operating budget and ensuring the maintenance of essential financial controls;
  • Preparing and compiling information necessary for bond sales.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Attributes:
Thorough understanding of financial account maintenance and verification methods; familiarity with office terminology, procedures, and equipment; solid grasp of business arithmetic and English; proficient in double-entry bookkeeping; capable of performing arithmetic calculations swiftly and accurately; adept at planning and supervising the work of others; able to comprehend and execute oral and written instructions; capable of clear and legible writing; possesses interpersonal skills; demonstrates mental alertness, good judgment, neatness, high accuracy, integrity, tact, and courtesy; physical condition appropriate for the demands of the role.

Minimum Qualifications:
Either:

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's or higher degree in Accounting or a related field, along with one year of full-time paid experience in financial account maintenance;
  2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, accompanied by three years of full-time paid experience in financial account maintenance.
And
  • A commitment to the community college's goals and objectives, providing quality programs and services for a diverse student body, including those with disabilities; personal qualities that foster effective and sensitive interaction in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with varying abilities and interests.

Compensation:
Hourly Rate: $25.44 per hour.
