Role Summary:
The Clinical Coordinator for Cardiac Pulmonary Medicine embodies the mission and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to our Code of Ethics and compliance standards. This role requires an experienced Registered Nurse who not only provides direct patient care but also facilitates a collaborative approach to patient management, staffing, resource allocation, and problem resolution during assigned shifts.
The Cardiac Pulmonary Medicine unit comprises 29 beds, primarily admitting patients from intensive care units or emergency departments. Our focus encompasses cardiology and pulmonology, catering to patients with significant respiratory needs, as well as those recovering from cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures. The unit is staffed with nursing and respiratory therapy professionals dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee unit operations during assigned shifts, ensuring adherence to policies and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate staffing assignments to maintain high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
- Guide patient care delivered by nursing staff and support personnel during shifts.
- Lead initiatives and participate in committees or task forces at the unit, departmental, or hospital level.
- Engage with patients and their families regarding nursing care and treatment plans.
- Implement action plans to ensure safe, efficient, and quality care delivery.
- Maintain the safety and security of patients, families, and staff.
- Provide direct patient care as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Clinical:
Demonstrate clinical proficiency and conduct ongoing assessments of patients and their families' needs. Implement appropriate interventions and monitor patient responses to treatments. - Professional:
Exhibit a professional demeanor and advocate for patients, colleagues, and the nursing profession. Maintain accountability and compassion in all interactions. - Leadership:
Understand the impact of team dynamics on organizational goals and escalate issues when necessary. Ensure a safe and clean environment for all. - Education:
Identify staff development needs and assist in orientation and training for new team members. - Research:
Ensure completion of research activities relevant to the assigned shift and participate in nursing research initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Professional Nurse license in Illinois.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent experience, with a minimum of two years in a clinical specialty.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialty certification in the relevant clinical area.
- Additional clinical experience in other areas of nursing.
