Overview
The Pulmonary Care Specialist is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and managing patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions. This role involves collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide education and support for both patients and staff regarding various pulmonary disorders.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough respiratory assessments and implement therapeutic interventions. Identify and recommend appropriate treatment options to enhance patient outcomes. Utilize established protocols to ensure optimal patient progression and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Manage and monitor mechanical ventilation across various settings. Ensure safe and effective delivery of ventilatory support, demonstrating proficiency in the operation and troubleshooting of ventilators. Assess patient readiness for weaning and document findings accurately.
- Provide comprehensive education on disease management to patients and their families. Enhance patient understanding of chronic conditions such as asthma and COPD, and promote self-management techniques, including inhaler usage and breathing exercises.
- Perform diagnostic tests and analyze results to support clinical decision-making. Maintain high standards of technique and technology, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Vocational degree from an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
- Experience in a critical care environment is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license as required by state regulations.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
- Additional certifications in pediatric and neonatal resuscitation may be required based on the patient population served.
Physical Requirements
This position involves medium work, including the ability to lift weights up to 32 lbs occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently, in accordance with safe patient handling policies.
