The Clinical Coordinator for Cardiac Pulmonary Medicine embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to the organization's ethical standards and compliance protocols. This role requires an experienced Registered Nurse who not only provides direct patient care but also facilitates a collaborative approach to patient management, staffing, resource allocation, and problem resolution during assigned shifts.
The Cardiac Pulmonary Medicine unit comprises 29 beds, primarily admitting patients from intensive care units or the emergency department. With a focus on cardiology and pulmonology, the patient demographic includes individuals with significant respiratory care needs, as well as those recovering from cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures. Our unit is supported by a dedicated team of nursing and respiratory therapy professionals, alongside our medicine service and specialized cardiology and lung transplant services.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee unit operations during assigned shifts in accordance with established policies and regulatory standards.
- Manage staffing assignments to ensure high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
- Direct patient care activities performed by nursing staff and support personnel.
- Lead initiatives and participate in committees or task forces at the unit, departmental, or hospital level.
- Engage with patients and their families regarding nursing care.
- Implement action plans to ensure safe, efficient, and quality care delivery.
- Ensure the safety and security of patients, families, and staff.
- Provide direct patient care as needed.
- Clinical:
- Exhibit clinical proficiency.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of patients and their families' psychosocial and educational needs.
- Respond to the needs of patients and their families with appropriate interventions.
- Monitor and document patient responses to treatments and progress toward goals.
- Adopt a patient-first and cost-effective approach to resource utilization.
- Complete quality improvement activities for the assigned shift.
- Assess and intervene in critical situations involving patients, staff, and visitors, consulting with management as necessary.
