PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates under the guidance of a Property Maintenance General Foreman within the General Services Division. Oversees a designated team of skilled craft personnel (including Plumbers, Electricians, Painters, HVAC Technicians, Roofers, and Carpenters); assesses project needs and allocates workforce accordingly; ensures compliance with Shelby County Code Enforcement and OSHA standards; organizes maintenance schedules, identifies necessary equipment and materials for tasks, and procures supplies; maintains comprehensive records of work orders and accounts receivable for billing purposes; implements a preventive maintenance strategy for municipal facilities. Participates in various meetings and conducts site inspections throughout the City for oversight of construction and maintenance activities; updates and manages the Emergency Preparedness Plan for crisis situations, which includes revising protocols and training staff; serves as a liaison between City departments and external Shelby County, State, and Federal entities for municipal operations.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
1. Undertakes supplementary responsibilities (essential or otherwise) as assigned.
COMMON PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with management and team members. Involves work at construction sites requiring bending, stooping, reaching overhead, navigating uneven terrain, and climbing ladders for site inspections. Requires visual acuity to review plans and drawings and the capability to operate vehicles and standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, calculators, and copiers.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Regular travel to meetings and work sites across the City for visual inspections of construction and maintenance areas, with exposure to potential safety hazards, dust, fumes, noise, heat, and varying weather conditions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years of experience in construction, including four (4) years in a supervisory role; or any combination of experience and training that enables one to fulfill the essential job functions. A valid driver’s license is mandatory.
SPECIALIZED LICENSES: Depending on the area of supervision, one or more of the following licenses may be necessary: Master Gas Installer, Refrigeration Specialist, Master Electrician, or Master Plumber.
