Position Overview:

The Electrodiagnostic Specialist I plays a crucial role in the assessment and monitoring of neurological conditions through advanced diagnostic techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts and ensures proficiency in electroencephalography (EEG), portable inpatient EEGs, ambulatory EEG monitoring, and Evoked Potentials, utilizing appropriate electrode placements and configurations tailored to each patient's needs.
  • Prepares patients for examinations, collecting detailed medical histories and relevant information from patients and their families regarding neurological symptoms and medications. Clearly communicates test procedures to patients and their families.
  • Executes diagnostic procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols, making necessary adjustments to equipment settings and utilizing additional electrodes or montages to achieve optimal results.
  • Identifies and documents any patient or environmental artifacts, taking appropriate measures to mitigate their impact on test results.
  • Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and addresses issues promptly, reporting significant problems to supervisory staff.
  • Handles administrative tasks, including scheduling procedures, archiving studies, and processing billing information.
  • Assists with patient positioning and transportation, adhering to proper lifting techniques and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of patient care across various age groups, assessing and interpreting data to meet each patient's specific needs as outlined in departmental guidelines.
Licensure and Certification:
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within six months, unless exempted by departmental leadership.
Educational Background:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience Requirements:
  • A minimum of one year of experience in neurodiagnostics or a related field involving direct patient care is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong interpersonal and patient service skills are essential.
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer applications is required.
Physical and Environmental Considerations:
  • Ability to operate all necessary diagnostic equipment effectively.
  • Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, twisting, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Physical demands include:
    • Lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
    • Lifting up to 20 lbs. overhead.
    • Caring for up to 40 lbs. over a reasonable distance.
    • Applying 30 lbs. of force for pushing/pulling tasks.
    • Performing sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or other hazardous materials, necessitating the use of protective gear as required.
  • May encounter sharp instruments (e.g., EMG needles) during procedures.
  • Standard office environment with potential exposure to clinical settings.
