Job Title: Scientist 2/3

Job Summary: We are seeking an outstanding scientist to join our team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. As a Scientist 2/3, you will be responsible for conducting dynamic experiments and analyzing data to advance our understanding of materials under extreme conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and conduct dynamic experiments using high-strain-rate mechanics and synchrotron facilities.
  • Analyze data to determine compression, phase change, or morphology changes during dynamic drive or detonation.
  • Develop and implement new experimental techniques and methods to improve data quality and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with team members to advance the state of the art in dynamic experimentation and analysis.
  • Communicate results of technical R&D through publications, presentations, reports, and intellectual property.
Requirements:
  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, or a closely-related field.
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in dynamic experiments, high-strain-rate mechanics, or synchrotron facilities.
  • Experience with pyrometry, X-ray, or laser-based diagnostics.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Experience leading projects and project teams.
