Software Safety Engineer Job Description

At Raytheon, we are committed to delivering cutting-edge products that meet the needs of our customers. As a Principal Software Safety Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and reliability of our software systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze software and firmware to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with software development teams to review and analyze embedded software code
  • Work with program management and government approval authorities to gain concurrence with software builds
  • Perform software and firmware analyses to identify potential safety risks
  • Develop and implement software safety programs to mitigate risks
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on software safety best practices
  • Interface with stakeholders, including customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Prepare safety assessment reports and safety program briefs for customer approval
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM)
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant software engineering or safety engineering experience
  • Advanced degree may be considered in lieu of experience
  • System safety engineering, system engineering, software or firmware engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent safety engineering experience
  • U.S. government-issued security clearance required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with DoD software safety programs
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills
  • Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
