Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer

At Raytheon Technologies, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Mechanical Engineering organization, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and production of mechanical hardware for our radar, sonar, and combat system equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines with Structural and Thermal analyst, Materials Engineering, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain.
- Lead a team(s) with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
- Develop mechanical designs from initial concept to formal technical data package generation (engineering drawings, models) and culminating in initial builds, testing, transition to production, and production support.
- Work thru engineering problems associated with large structures, welded assemblies, component integration, mechanisms, power and cooling systems, electronic assemblies.
- Strong understanding of Thermal, Structural, Dynamic, and Reliability analysis to provide inputs and support. Incorporate results and findings into mechanical design.
- Perform and review tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
- Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
- Release initial designs and process engineering changes through PTC-Windchill PDM (Product Data Management).
Requirements
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years' experience.
- Experience with designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments.
- Experience and strong working skills with 3D CAD design tools and ANSI/ASME Y14.
- Experience with metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal) and/or assembly joining techniques (fasteners, welding).
- S. government issued security clearance is required. S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Experience/understanding of structural analysis/structural design and thermal analyses, and designing compliant parts accordingly.
- Experience with bid/proposal efforts, Earned Value Management (EVM) and Project planning, and Risk & Opportunity Management.
- Demonstrated team player, self-driven leader with ability to mentor less senior engineers.
