POSITION SUMMARY:

The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for conducting repairs and maintenance on heavy machinery, compact heavy equipment, light service vehicles, and light trucks. Typical responsibilities include preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brake, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilizes advanced knowledge to diagnose and rectify mechanical issues on heavy machinery.
  • Performs repairs or preventative maintenance on electrical, diesel, and gasoline vehicles, including compactors, excavators, wheel loaders, and other machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Interprets equipment condition reports and repair orders, collaborating with supervisors and operators to clarify defects and discuss preventive measures.
  • Completes documentation related to equipment repairs, tracking parts usage and time management.
  • Maintains daily reports on consumables, recording hours, fuel, and oil usage for input into the fleet management software.
  • Analyzes data from oil sampling and fleet management systems.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Conducts overhauls on gas or diesel engines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced knowledge in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, advanced electrical systems, drive train components, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components, evidenced by ASE Certification.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a technician working on heavy machinery.
  • Completion of a Mechanical Trade School certificate or degree.
  • Certification in electrical diagnostics.
  • Relevant ASE certifications.
  • Familiarity with Tier 4 emission systems.
  • Welding and/or fabrication skills and experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • At least 1 year of experience in a technician role with knowledge of OSHA Haz Com, Lock Out Tag Out, and Fire Protection regulations.
