Job Summary

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a Crane Operator and Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for operating a variety of boom cranes and performing maintenance, repair, and overhaul of interlocking mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic equipment and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of boom cranes, including truck-mounted, pedestal-mounted, and permanently placed 75-ton stiff leg cranes, to load and unload trucks, floating equipment, and remove or place materials and equipment in connection with lock maintenance and dry docking boats and barges.
  • Perform rigging and minor maintenance as required.
  • As a journey-level Lock and Dam Mechanic, perform maintenance, repair, overhaul, and new installation for interlocking mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic equipment and systems.
  • Inspect, adjust, lubricate, test, install, calibrate, and/or perform major and minor repairs at regularly scheduled intervals.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and/or rebuild electric motors, diesel, and gasoline engines of associated equipment, such as large mobile cranes, construction-type equipment, bulkhead hoists, generators, hydraulic pumps, air compressors, etc.
Requirements
  • Ability to do the work of a Crane Operator without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to perform common duties of a Crane operator, including operating a truck or barge-mounted crane or a permanently placed 75-ton stiff leg in open areas well within lift capacity.
  • Ability to perform rigging and routine preventative maintenance on cranes.
  • Ability to work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
Working Conditions

The incumbent may work in a static position for long periods of time, making continual changes to controls to maneuver loads in tight places. Work requires frequent standing, walking, and bending. The incumbent may be required to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, humidity, and noise levels.
