Job Overview

The Environmental Services Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the Building and Construction sector by managing Environmental initiatives and guiding a team of Environmental Engineers, Scientists, and Technicians. This position entails comprehensive oversight of environmental services within the division, including profit and loss accountability. The Environmental Services Manager will lead and implement environmental project assignments, which encompass engineering or scientific evaluations, report generation, field investigations, and laboratory services. Additionally, this role includes providing senior-level review of proposals and reports to ensure that client commitments are fulfilled.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish a premier practice by attracting, retaining, and developing a network of subject matter experts capable of delivering exceptional technical solutions for our clients.
  • Act as a central point of contact for Business Groups to provide essential geotechnical services and foster collaborations across the company to enhance the delivery of quality environmental services.
  • Develop a mentoring framework within the environmental practice that promotes the continuous growth of environmental professionals throughout their careers, while strategically identifying expertise gaps and collaborating with Business Groups for key recruitment.
  • Encourage the documentation of technical knowledge through the creation of Standards and Practices, promoting knowledge sharing across Business Groups.
  • Forge partnerships with subconsultants, academic institutions, and industry organizations to leverage external technical expertise, advance best practices, and support our clients.
  • Promote quality initiatives within the practice to enhance service quality and mitigate risks for both the company and its clients.
  • Lead thought leadership efforts within the company and the environmental consulting sector, participating in industry conferences to elevate the company’s profile.
  • Support major project coordination, including strategic planning, proposal preparation, and collaboration with technical and marketing teams for presentations and negotiations.
  • Work closely with Market Sector Directors and Client Managers to develop long-term growth strategies that effectively address the geotechnical needs of clients.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to raise awareness of the environmental consultation practice and establish partnerships to promote innovative concepts and reduce risks for the benefit of clients.
  • Partner with Operations Leadership to create and maintain a skills matrix of environmental professionals, along with a workload and staffing strategy to balance project delivery commitments.

Supervisory Role

This position will directly oversee the environmental practice within the Central Division, ensuring that deadlines and performance standards are achieved by mentoring and guiding team members, organizing workflow, and implementing policies and procedures to support the team. This role may also involve providing direction to field engineers, technicians, and drillers as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 8 years of experience (preferred).
  • Ability to obtain registration in other states as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3 years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to devise and implement innovative solutions to diverse challenges.
  • Experience in reviewing contract terms and conditions with recommendations for final review.
  • Professional Engineer and/or Professional Geologist registration in Minnesota.

Work Environment

This role primarily operates in a professional office setting, routinely utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. Occasional outdoor work may be required.

Physical Requirements

Occasionally, the employee may sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position may involve outdoor work in various weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Must have authorization to work in the United States.
  • Clean driving record is required.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing.
