Role Overview:
The Certified Surgical Technician Specialist is responsible for managing the instruments, supplies, and equipment essential for surgical operations. This role is vital in maintaining a sterile environment and supporting the surgical team effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Verify and prepare necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures.
2. Ensure proper scrubbing, gowning, and gloving for yourself and surgical team members.
3. Set up a sterile field with instruments, supplies, and medications, ensuring all items are in optimal condition.
4. Conduct accurate counts with the circulator before the procedure and prior to closing the incision.
5. Assist in draping the sterile field and passing instruments to the surgeon during the operation.
6. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to facilitate a smooth procedure.
7. Uphold the highest standards of sterile technique throughout the surgery.
8. Safely handle surgical specimens and adhere to safety protocols regarding sharps and medications.

Qualifications:
- Certification is required upon hire, with new graduates expected to obtain certification within six months.
- Acceptable certifications include:
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) – renewal every year.
- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) – renewal every two years.

Training and Experience:
- A minimum of 1.5 years of on-the-job training, including an 8-week concentrated orientation.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for up to 1 hour, stand for up to 8 hours, and walk for extended periods.
- Must possess manual dexterity for handling instruments and equipment.
- Capable of lifting and carrying objects up to 25 pounds and pushing heavier items as needed.
