The Certified Surgical Technician is responsible for managing the instruments, supplies, and equipment essential for surgical operations.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Positions may be available across various shifts.

We offer:

  • Full-time positions, requiring 36 or 40 hours per week
  • Part-time roles, with less than 36 hours per week
  • Per Diem opportunities, with a minimum of 2 shifts per month

Holiday and weekend work may be required based on unit and organizational policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the availability of necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures
  • Prepare self and surgical team members by scrubbing, gowning, and gloving
  • Set up a sterile environment with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications, ensuring all items are functional
  • Conduct counts with the circulator prior to the procedure and before closing the incision
  • Assist in draping the sterile field
  • Provide instruments, retractors, sutures, and other materials to the surgeon during the operation
  • Exhibit the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team
  • Maintain the highest standards of sterile technique throughout the procedure
  • Handle surgical specimens safely and appropriately
  • Adhere to safety protocols regarding sharps and medications in the operating room

EDUCATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Certification is mandatory upon hiring, except for new graduates. New graduates must obtain certification within six months of their hiring date.

Acceptable certifications include:

  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) – renewal every year
  • National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) – renewal every two years

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

On-the-job training is required, with a minimum of 1.5 years, including an 8-week focused orientation period.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit for up to 1 hour daily, stand for up to 8 hours daily (with possible 6-hour intervals), and walk for 8-10 hours daily (up to 2 hours at a time). Must possess manual dexterity for handling and twisting/turning tasks. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 10 pounds consistently, up to 25 pounds frequently, and push objects exceeding 100 pounds (e.g., carts). Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching above shoulder level are required. Must respond quickly and have auditory capabilities for normal conversation across various frequencies. Visual acuity for general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision is essential, along with depth perception and the ability to tolerate visual monotony.
