Position Overview

This role is integral to the Scholarships and Grant Services division within the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, reporting directly to the Senior Associate Director overseeing this sector.

The incumbent will have comprehensive administrative duties and oversight for the Federal TEACH Grant and Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant programs.

Additionally, this position encompasses administrative responsibilities for the SC Need-Based Grant, SC National Guard College Assistance Program, and SC Teaching Fellows.

Moreover, the role includes administrative oversight of all institutional grants at USC, excluding the Gamecock Guarantee Program.

Collaboration with the Senior Associate Director will be essential for managing the SC State Scholarship Programs.

The position involves participating in the general review of student applications, processing eligibility, analyzing applications, following up, and managing awarding procedures for a service population exceeding 44 applicants and over 25 recipients, handling millions in financial aid.

This role carries the authority to make administrative and service-related decisions, where any errors could significantly impact the University.

Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of relevant experience, which may be substituted with an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications Experience in a student financial aid office or a similar higher education setting is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The ability to acquire and maintain an in-depth understanding of federal, state, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures necessary for the compliant administration of the programs under direct responsibility, as well as all services offered by the Office.

Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in service delivery; establish and sustain professional relationships; and communicate effectively with a diverse service population.

A successful candidate will exhibit strong organizational skills, leadership potential, excellent communication, public relations capabilities, and a high level of professional energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer the Federal TEACH Grant and Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant programs.
  • Oversee the SC Need-Based Grant, SC National Guard College Assistance Program, and SC Teaching Fellows.
  • Manage all USC institutional grants, excluding the Gamecock Guarantee Program.
  • Assist in the administration of the SC State Scholarship Programs.
  • Participate in the review of student files to ensure accuracy and address specific needs.
  • Provide detailed counseling and advisement on financial aid resources, application processes, eligibility, and award delivery.
  • Support the Associate Director in managing university, state, and non-university scholarships and grant services.
  • Engage in outreach activities to present financial aid information to prospective students and their families.
