Position Overview

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is accountable for the nutritional management of patients. This role involves planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating individualized nutritional care strategies. The specialist also contributes to menu adjustments and other nutrition-related activities.

Work Schedule
Per Diem - Required availability on Mondays and Fridays from 9 AM to 5 PM. Additional days may vary.

Key Responsibilities

  1. May provide mentorship and training to team members.
  2. Responsible for executing a variety of clinical tasks and addressing minor complexities with accuracy and responsiveness.
  3. Conducts interviews with patients and/or families to gather nutritional histories, ascertain food preferences, assess nutritional needs, and document findings in medical records.
  4. Performs nutritional evaluations, formulates and implements personalized care plans, and collaborates with medical staff to recommend nutrition strategies for patient care.
  5. Advises physicians on necessary dietary modifications and supplemental feedings, ensuring diet orders align with physician directives.
  6. Offers nutritional education, guidance, and counseling to patients and their families, in accordance with prescribed dietary plans. Calculates nutrient content for tube feeding and dietary intake as per physician orders.
  7. Assists in modifying patient menus based on preferences and contributes to the development of standardized recipes while overseeing food service staff to ensure proper food handling and portion control.
  8. Supports clinical operations by assisting team members and management with daily tasks.
  9. Facilitates and leads individual and group educational sessions, referring clients to community resources as necessary. Engages in and promotes wellness initiatives.
  10. Establishes effective communication channels regarding nutritional information within the program and the broader community.
  11. Delivers in-service training to culinary, food service, and interdisciplinary teams on therapeutic diets and related subjects.
  12. Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities, including data collection and execution of related tasks as directed.
  13. Identifies and escalates operational challenges and technical issues to senior team members and management; modifies existing tools or processes as needed.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience is required.
  • Current Registered Dietitian Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory.
  • Certified Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN) may be required.
  • Advanced or specialized certifications may be necessary.
  • 1-3 years of pertinent experience is required.
  • Experience in acute care settings is preferred.
Salary Information
The salary range for this position is $58,540 to $92,650 per year. This range represents a good faith estimate of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant at the time of this job advertisement and may be subject to change. Various factors may influence the determination of a team member's base salary, including location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.
