Clinical Nutrition Specialist

Position Summary: Responsible for overseeing the nutritional care of patients. This role involves planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating individualized nutritional care plans. Additionally, it includes assisting with menu modifications and other nutrition-related tasks.
Shift ExpectationsAvailability: Must be flexible to work various shifts, including weekends, to meet departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities- Mentor and train team members.
- Perform clinical tasks and address problems of minimal complexity with accuracy and responsiveness.
- Conduct interviews with patients and/or families to gather nutritional histories, document food preferences, and assess nutritional needs.
- Develop and implement tailored care plans based on nutritional assessments, and recommend nutrition strategies to medical staff for consideration.
- Advise on therapeutic diet modifications and supplemental feedings, ensuring the accuracy of diet orders against physician's instructions.
- Provide nutritional education and counseling to patients and their families, aligning with prescribed dietary guidelines.
- Calculate nutrient content for tube feeding and dietary intakes as directed by physicians.
- Assist in menu adjustments based on patient preferences and contribute to the creation of standardized recipes.
- Support clinical operations by assisting team members and management with daily tasks.
- Prepare and conduct educational sessions for individuals and groups, and refer clients to community resources as necessary.
- Engage in wellness initiatives and promote health programs within the organization.
- Facilitate effective communication regarding nutrition information within the program and the community.
- Provide training to culinary and food service teams on therapeutic diets and related subjects.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities, including data collection and task execution as directed.
- Address operational challenges and escalate technical issues to senior staff as needed.
Education: Master’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Certifications: Current Registered Dietitian Certification with the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory. Certified Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN) may be required. Advanced or specialized certifications are a plus.
Experience: 1-3 years of relevant experience is required.
Salary InformationCompensation: The salary range for this position is $58,540-$92,650 per year. This range is a good faith estimate of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant and may be adjusted in the future based on various factors.
