Summary:
Manages a secure and effective fleet maintenance initiative.
Ensures that the organization's vehicles and equipment are kept in optimal mechanical condition for the safe and prompt transport of personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Guarantees the regular and essential upkeep and safe operation of all vehicles by:
Conducting monthly assessments on all vehicles.
Executing diagnostics and repairs on organizational vehicles.
Supervising and/or directing the efforts of fellow mechanics involved in the maintenance, repair, and/or enhancement of vehicles.
Carrying out engine evaluations using specialized tools, as required.
Performing periodic road-tests to ascertain road-worthiness.
Preparing and reviewing the preventative maintenance strategy for Transportation Services. Maintaining relevant records and reports on vehicles and maintenance activities.
Assessing needs and making suggestions regarding the schedule for preventative maintenance programs for vehicles and equipment.
Engages in professional development opportunities and stays updated on relevant subjects by:
Maintaining the ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and make necessary adjustments on all vehicle systems.
Possessing comprehensive knowledge and capability to repair components across all systems, including proficiency in operating workshop equipment.
Participating in training and seminars related to fleet maintenance, vehicle mechanics, or similar topics, as necessary.
Providing on-the-job training for mechanic trades personnel and drivers as needed.
Coordinates work assignments and responsibilities with the Transportation Coordinator, including but not limited to:
Inventory management and oversight; organizing and monitoring the receipt and distribution of parts and supplies.
Assigning vehicles for all field trips/athletic events.
Evaluating the necessity for equipment and material replacement, upgrades, or rotation. Making recommendations to the Transportation Coordinator.
Ensuring adherence to safety standards and protocols.
Supervises the work of the Assistant Mechanic.
May serve as a Driver, as assigned.
May perform other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities:
Executes supervisory responsibilities in alignment with the organization's policies and applicable regulations under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor and Superintendent.
May assist the Transportation Coordinator in supervisory functions such as:interviewing, hiring, and training personnel; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; addressing complaints and resolving issues.
The ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment is crucial for successful job performance. Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is expected.Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
A high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required. Advanced training in automotive mechanics and experience with fleet maintenance is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must be a certified mechanic. A current CDL license with School Bus Endorsement is required. Must have a clean driving record and be able to pass a physical examination including a drug test.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one situations or before groups.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all organizational requirements and policies. Mechanical aptitude and some knowledge of technology and mechanical-related equipment and apparatus.
