Public Works Equipment Operator

The City of South Burlington, VT is seeking a skilled Public Works Equipment Operator to perform various tasks related to maintaining city streets, sewers, parks, and other city property.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment, including machinery, to perform tasks such as resurfacing and widening roadways, patching potholes, and repairing guardrails.
  • Perform manual labor tasks, including mowing, building/repairing sidewalks, constructing/repairing drainage structures, and clearing vegetation.
  • Assist with snow and ice management activities, including operating a snowplow, sidewalk plow, sander, and spreader.
  • Perform duties requiring independent judgment and in accordance with established safety and operational procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in parks, landscaping, or public works maintenance activities.
  • Possession of a Vermont CDL B license with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within six months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, and equipment involved in the maintenance, repair, and construction of roads, drainage, and wastewater systems.
  • Working knowledge of snow and ice control techniques and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability and skill in the operation of a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standard safety practices.
