Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Location: Central Area, Rockledge, Timothy J. Mills Fire Rescue Center, Travels Countywide

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Prevention Inspector to promote fire safety and conduct fire hazard inspections for a designated area of Brevard County.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct fire hazard inspections to identify potential fire risks and hazards.
  2. Develop and implement fire safety plans to mitigate fire risks and hazards.
  3. Enforce fire safety regulations and codes to ensure compliance.
  4. Collaborate with other departments and agencies to promote fire safety and prevention.
  5. Provide education and training to the public on fire safety and prevention.

Requirements:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must possess a current valid State of Florida Firesafety Inspector I certification, issued by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
  3. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment.
  4. Must possess a valid State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment.
  5. Must possess a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from an approved agency and maintain said certification during the term of employment.
  6. Must not have been found guilty or plead guilty or nolo contendere to a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude within the last five years.
  7. Must be of good moral character, as determined by a local Clerk of Court, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) criminal background investigation.
  8. Must be able to successfully pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check administered by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office (BCSO).
  9. Must have fingerprints on file with Brevard County.
  10. Must successfully pass a physical examination and a vision test, as determined by a licensed medical practitioner, currently under contract with Brevard County.
  11. Must be able to work irregular schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Working Conditions:

  1. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  2. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  3. Must be able to work in a confined space, such as a vehicle or a building.
  4. Must be able to work at heights above ground level.
  5. Must be able to work in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:

  1. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.
  2. The employee must be able to carry 50 pounds or more.
  3. The employee must be able to push 50 pounds or more.
  4. The employee must be able to pull 50 pounds or more.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Must possess a current valid State of Florida Firesafety Inspector I certification, issued by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.

Salary: $18.37 hourly. Additional incentives may be available, in accordance with the most current IAFF Rank & File Bargaining Agreement.
