**Position Overview** At Stumptown, every role is crucial to our mission of delivering high-quality coffee. Our Coffee Specialists are responsible for ensuring that the quality of our coffee is realized as intended by our sourcing partners, from bean to cup. They play a vital role in the success of their café by consistently providing outstanding hospitality and top-notch beverages and products. Coffee Specialists are encouraged to expand their coffee knowledge and develop a passion for the craft. **Key Responsibilities**

  • Prepare espresso beverages for customers, adhering to Stumptown's quality standards.
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience; proactively engage with customers to understand and meet their needs, going the extra mile to ensure satisfaction.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our coffees, teas, foods, merchandise, and promotions to enhance sales and service while engaging in knowledgeable conversations with customers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment for both customers and coworkers throughout the café.
  • Exhibit a willingness to adapt and share ideas on improving the café experience.
  • Taste coffee, tea, and specialty beverages regularly to stay familiar with product and quality standards.
  • Accurately process transactions in the POS system and manage cash handling.
  • Engage in self-reflection and seek feedback on performance; identify personal strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Follow sustainable practices to minimize environmental impact at the café.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures for waste reduction, energy conservation, and water usage, while suggesting improvements whenever possible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**

  • Minimum of 1 year of specialty coffee experience required.
  • Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for coffee, along with a desire to educate others about our offerings.
  • Ability to provide exceptional hospitality in a personable and professional manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Flexibility and availability in scheduling are essential.
  • Ability to commute between cafés as needed.
  • Health department license or certification as required by local regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues and customers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and a strong sense of reliability.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, as well as perform repetitive motions with hands and arms to operate espresso machinery.
  • Ability to taste and smell coffee accurately.
  • Frequent communication with customers is required.
  • Ability to lift weights up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
