Overview
As a Beverage Service Specialist, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional service to our guests and fellow team members. Your primary responsibility will be to manage the operations of your designated beverage outlet while ensuring that we meet and exceed our revenue objectives. You will be tasked with crafting high-quality beverages in accordance with established recipes and providing a personalized experience for each guest. Additionally, you will educate both external and internal guests about our premium beverage offerings and retail products. Your commitment to going above and beyond for guests and team members is essential, as every interaction is significant, regardless of its scale.
Key Responsibilities
All tasks and responsibilities must align with Holland America Group standards, USPH, HACCP, and Environmental Safety policies. Each shipboard employee may be assigned various roles within food and beverage service venues as directed by their supervisor or management.
- Arrive at your designated workstation punctually, impeccably groomed, and dressed in accordance with company standards, including a clean uniform and name tag.
- Your assigned venue will be based on your performance history and ability to enhance the venue's unique concept and profitability.
- Foster teamwork within the venue to boost sales performance and guest satisfaction.
- Deliver swift, efficient, and professional mixology and coffee services to guests and crew in your assigned areas.
- Provide accurate mixology services to Beverage Attendants, treating them with the same respect as guests.
- Exceed guest expectations with a 'guest-first' approach, ensuring compliance with company service standards.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to organizational standards and sanitation regulations.
- Assist in training new team members by positively reinforcing successful performance and offering respectful coaching as needed.
- Organize and set up the bar as instructed, creating an appealing display of bottles, glasses, and merchandise.
- Conduct end-of-cruise inventories and assist with spot checks throughout the bars.
- Ensure the venue ambiance aligns with the time of day, including lighting, temperature, and music.
- Engage with guests to answer inquiries and provide operational information.
- Actively promote and sell beverage packages.
- Provide beverage service to package guests in accordance with company standards.
- Maximize revenue opportunities by selling and/or up-selling premium brands.
- Execute beverage promotions as per the execution guide.
- Suggest alternative drinks when requested items are unavailable.
- Ensure bar appetizers and snacks are served consistently throughout the venue.
- Be aware of food allergies and recommend alternatives when necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the bar area, ensuring all stations are orderly and equipped with beverage menus.
- Remove dirty glasses and empty bottles promptly.
- Work independently and without immediate supervision.
- Maintain accurate par levels and rotate stock according to management standards.
- Keep an inventory of liquor, mixers, and other supplies used in the bar.
- Stay informed about drink trends and make recommendations to management.
- Ensure adherence to company standards for beverage service and drink recipes.
- Address service and product deficiencies proactively and follow up on guest feedback.
- Communicate effectively with the Beverage Manager to enhance service efficiency.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace at all times.
- Participate in special events and parties outside of assigned bars or lounges.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and other work-related activities as required.
- Verify appropriate identification to confirm minimum drinking age.
- Assist with set-up, service, and breakdown for private functions and events.
- Complete side duties at the beginning and end of each shift to prepare for service.
- Be accountable for the assigned bar stock and inventory.
- Conduct inventories after each cruise under the guidance of management.
- Lead pre-shift meetings to establish daily revenue expectations and operational information.
- Ensure compliance with uniform, grooming, and hygiene standards among the team.
- Ensure timely service of hot appetizers and proper setup of bar snacks.
- Adhere to cocktail measurement and recipe standards within the Mixology program.
- Act as a brand ambassador and engage with guests when possible.
- Ensure all records and forms are maintained according to company policy.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions and performing preventive maintenance.
- Inspect the assigned Lounge and Bar for maintenance needs and report to management.
- Adapt to changes in the Beverage Department as required.

- Understand and adhere to the Vessel's Rules and Regulations.
- Implement and uphold all company policies and regulations.
- Strive to meet and exceed revenue budgets and guest satisfaction.
- Support the development of an efficient team by taking an active interest in their welfare and safety.
- Motivate and train subordinate staff, particularly Beverage Attendants and Utility personnel.
- Assist in restocking bar locations and provision areas.
- Attend scheduled meetings and training sessions.
- Complete responsible service of alcohol training within the first week of employment.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements:
- High school diploma or vocational training; a minimum of two years of beverage-related experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Proficient in English, with the ability to analyze and interpret procedural manuals and technical regulations.
- Strong presentation skills to effectively communicate with employees and customers.
- Ability to explain beverage offerings to guests in a professional manner.
- One to two years of bartending experience, preferably in a high-end restaurant or lounge.
- Supervisory experience is required.
- Basic knowledge of beverage machinery, including draft beer and coffee machines.
- Ability to work independently and mix drinks accurately according to standards.
- Familiarity with various brands and qualities of liquors and beers.
- Problem-solving skills to address guest complaints and exceed expectations.
- Understanding of public health standards related to beverage handling.
- Extensive experience in Mixology.

- Ability to give and receive instructions effectively.
- Must have received overall exceed expectations ratings more than twice in one contract.
- Ability to speak additional languages is preferred.
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, talk, hear, and taste. In emergencies, the employee may need to sit, stoop, kneel, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
- All shipboard employees must be physically capable of participating in emergency procedures and drills.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 kg.
- Must be able to work in environments where guests may smoke.
